Guwahati: Riniki Bhuiyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, has filed a Rs 10 crore defamation suit against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for ‘false’ allegations of irregularities in a food processing scheme. A case has been filed Rinki Bhuiyan’s lawyer Devjit Saikia told PTI that the case was filed in the court of the Civil Litigation Judge (Senior Division) of Kamrup Metropolitan on Friday.
He said, ‘My client has demanded Rs 10 crore defamation against Gaurav Gogoi for multiple posts on ‘X’. We have clarified that we have not submitted any application for subsidy. Saikia claimed that no process was initiated to get the subsidy, for which a show-cause notice was sent to his client’s company on May 26 this year and an email was also sent by the Ministry of Food Processing.

He said, ‘The project was approved on November 22, 2022. In the last email we were told that if we did not submit our proposal our claim would be cancelled. We are not giving any answer to get subsidy. The senior lawyer claimed that what Gogoi said on social media about Rinky Bhuiyan and his company ‘Pride East Entertainment’ was not based on truth.

He said, ‘They did not prepare fully (for the complaint). Project approval does not mean that subsidy is available. We will fight this case with all our strength. Following this, Gogoi tweeted and accused Himanta and his wife of corruption in getting subsidy from the central government for the project. Gogoi has sought Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s intervention to release information about subsidy receipts. The Assam MP noted that on March 22, 2023, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Goyal, in his reply in the Lok Sabha in response to a question on the government’s initiatives for investment in Assam, said that under the Pradhan Mantri Kishan Samad Yojana (PMKSY) food processing will receive assistance till January 31, 2022. He said, ‘The name of M/s Pride East Entertainment Pvt Ltd is mentioned in Serial No. 7 of the list, where the amount of grant sanctioned is Tk 10 crore.’ Gogoi said that it is clear from the answers given in the Lok Sabha and the list of beneficiaries on the website of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries that Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned in the name of Pride East Entertainment Pvt.
