Income tax: Refunds will be settled expeditiously, the IT department has asked taxpayers to respond to earlier tax claims.
New Delhi. The Income Tax Department on Saturday asked taxpayers to respond to information regarding previous year dues claims for speedy settlement of refunds for the financial year 2022-23 (FY23).
Some taxpayers wrote to the Income Tax department on social media seeking information about previous pending tax claims, after which the department said on the social media platform that they are being given an opportunity accordingly.
The Income Tax Department is trying its best to process Income Tax Returns (ITR) and issue refunds expeditiously.

The Income Tax Department has reported that 7.09 crore returns have been filed for income earned in the financial year 2022-23. Out of this 6.96 crore ITRs have been verified and 6.46 crore returns have been processed so far. This includes refund returns of Rs 2.75 crore.

“However, there are cases where refunds are due to taxpayers but earlier tax claims have not been met,” the Income Tax department said.
