OPINION: History is being made under the leadership of PM Modi, a new India leaving the scars of slavery behind
Since becoming the Prime Minister of the country in 2014, PM Modi has continuously worked to rid the country of the symbols and signs of slavery. Today, when the entire Parliament shifted to the new building under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the hearts of 140 people in the country swelled with pride. People have realized that today’s India is the new India, the best India and that India is creating a new identity in the world. The situation is such that neighboring countries are also forced to appreciate this progress of India. Neighboring China also praised India for its new parliament building a few days ago.
In the Global Times, China’s official mouthpiece, poetry was read in praise of India on the new parliament. China said that India has done a better job in removing the symbol of slavery. The Global Times in its editorial mentions the new parliament building as supporting colonialism. When countries that were formerly slaves of other nations become politically independent or try to become independent, we call it colonization. China’s praise shows that India has managed to do what other countries have not been able to do so far. Can and is doing this job.
Soon after independence, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia said that there would be no trace of slavery in India. Prime Minister Modi is busy implementing the dream that the fathers of the country dreamed of. In fact any sovereign nation should have its own standards. Dr. Lohia understood this. But the Congress governments never heeded his thoughts. When Narendra Modi took charge as Prime Minister, he did not create any vandalism, but showed his creative prowess by creating another big example. Similar to India Gate but a new military memorial has been built.
Honoring Lord Irwin, the House of Parliament will continue to boast of its glory and the glory of our slavery before independence, yet under Modi’s leadership a new paradigm has been created far better than that. Where the best Indian intelligence is very well arranged. Now when you come to the national capital Delhi, you will not find the Rajpath Road as it has been renamed as Dutva Road. Now tell how much work PM Modi has done to remove the traces of slavery.
Took oath on Independence Day
Prime Minister Modi took ‘Five Pledges’ to celebrate Independence Day 2022, one of which was to eliminate traces of slavery. In his speech, the Prime Minister said, we must remove every symbol associated with the British, which is a symbol of slavery.
Symbols of slavery removed from the navy
The Prime Minister handed over the INS Vikrant aircraft to the Navy, during which the Prime Minister destroyed the old Navy flag which was the British symbol. The flag bore the symbol of King George’s cross. After that, PM Modi changed it and did not create a navy identity. The Prime Minister handed over the flag of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the Navy. Then the flag of the navy changed.
Independence from the 1500 Act of British rule
Even after the British left, the laws given by the British remained in the country, the previous governments never paid attention to it. But let me tell you that PM Modi’s able leadership is determined to end this, the situation is such that since Modi government came to power in 2014, more than 1500 old laws have been repealed. These laws of the British era are being followed even though they have become irrelevant. Many of these laws were tools of exploitation of Indians during the British Raj. Well, this trend is still continuing.
Some major places have changed names
Also, in states where BJP was in power, names of cities and streets were changed. It was found that the name of the street or city has been changed. The BJP government has also changed the names of many railway stations. For example, Mughalsarai Junction was renamed Deendayal Upadhyay Junction and Gurgaon was renamed Gurugram. Curzon Road was changed to Kasturba Road. The name of the race course was changed to Lok Kalyan Marg. Aurangzeb Road was renamed as APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Apart from this, Dalhousie Road has been changed to Dara Shikoh Road.
Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the Grand Canopy of India Gate
As a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative, a freedom fighter who was ignored by Congress governments was given an honor of which the country is proud. A 28-feet tall granite statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great martyr and freedom fighter, has been installed in the grand canopy of India Gate. At one time, the cantonment housed a statue of George V, which was removed in 1968, 21 years after independence. What better example to take pride in the country’s heritage?
Integrating the Railway Budget into the General Budget
In 2017, the government broke the 92-year-old tradition and merged the railway budget with the general budget. Apart from this, the budget presentation date has also been changed. Since the colonial period, the budget was presented on the last day of February. Now it is presented on 1st February. This change is very important in the context of the emancipation symbol of slavery.
‘O people of my country’ replaces ‘Abide with me’ in Beating Retreat
The popular Christian prayer song ‘Abide with Me’ was omitted from the BTIND retreat program held after the Republic Day celebrations this year. Poet Pradeep’s famous song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Lagan’ is included in its place. In 2015 as well, some major changes were made to the Beating Retreat program. The Indian instruments sitar, santur and tabla were included for the first time.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been renamed
In December 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed three islands in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as per the sentiments of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Netaji even suggested renaming the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Shaheed and Swaraj Islands in 1943. Modi government renamed Ross Island as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island.
