TGIF Review: Vicky Kaushal’s This Family Couldn’t Be ‘Great’, Too Much Drama Is Hard To Bear
The Great Indian Family Movie Review: Vicky Kaushal, who has done films like ‘Maasan’, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, is currently busy producing films for the family audience. After ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ and ‘Zara Haatke Zara Bachke’, Vicky is now seen in ‘The Great Indian Family’ which released in theaters today. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, Vicky stars Manushi Chillar in this film and is another attempt to establish herself as an actress. This is Manushi’s second attempt to deliver a successful film under Yash Raj Productions. Earlier, she also launched with ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ opposite Akshay Kumar. We tell you how much this story of Atrangi family and Bhajan Kumar has the potential to attract the audience to the theatres.
Story: The story of the film is by Ved Vyas Tripathi, who is known as Bhajan Kumar because of his bhajans. Bhajan Kumar’s father was Pandit Siya Ram Tripathi, who dominated the entire Balrampur. He is called on every religious occasion. But in front of him is another Pandit Mishra, who hates Tripathi Ji. Bhajan Kumar has a large family, which he considers the snake of his life. But suddenly a letter arrives and everything changes. Panditji’s son became a Muslim. But why this is so, and how Bhajan Kumar rectifies all these situations, this film tells.
Hindi cinema has always been a place that follows the saying ‘religion does not teach hatred among each other’. Director Vijay Krishna Acharya’s story tries to show, develop and present this idea. Newton’s father has also taken full cooperation in this. But this attempt of ‘The Great Indian Family’ proved to be a complete failure. Filmed on a fake set named Balarampur, this story also looks fake in many places. The dialogues that make a good story a good film are lacking in this film. This story seems to make sense, but doesn’t quite get it right.
In 2015, a film was released, titled ‘Dharma Sankat Mein’. The story of this film is about a man who for years Dharmapala proudly considers himself Hindu, but suddenly in middle age he learns that he was born as a Muslim and adopted by Hindu parents. ‘The Great Indian Family’ tries this plot with Vicky Kaushal. Whereas ‘Dharma Sankat Me’ featured veteran actors like Paresh Rawal, Naseeruddin Shah and Anu Kapoor. ‘Dharma Sankat Mein’ portrays this theme beautifully and Paresh Rawal portrays the emotional conflict of such a person very beautifully. In ‘The Great Indian Family’ too many actors including Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Sadia Siddiqui are completely wasted. As you can guess from this, some scenes in this movie titled ‘The Great Indian Family’ only used family members to vote.
Social media influencer Shrishti Dixit was also seen in the film.
A large portion of the first half of the film is spent introducing the characters, which is done in Vicky’s voice. There is nothing new and different in the first half from what you have seen in the trailer. Whereas in the second half you don’t understand why all this is happening. The film is only 1 hour and 12 minutes long, but it seems difficult to spend such a short time in the theater. Talking about the music of the story, actor Vedant Sinha, who plays Vicky Kaushal’s childhood character, has sung a bhajan in the film, apart from that, there is not a single song that can take the story forward.
acting Speaking of which, as I said before, the story doesn’t use very good actors. But whatever role he got, he acted well. Vicky Kaushal has made her mark in the industry with films like ‘Maasan’ and has always been known for her performances. Vicky is able to show her magic in emotional scenes, but she seems to be trying too hard in comedy scenes and this is due to very weak dialogues. The biggest betrayal in the film happened with Manushi Chillar, whose other films also failed to give her a good place or role. Jasmeet’s character in this film is so low level that removing this character from the film will not make any difference. She is only in the film for a dance number, a kiss scene and some intimate scenes. Although she looked quite confident on screen, she had nothing to do in this film.
Manoj Pawane played the role of Vicky Chacha in this film.
Why you should watch: If you’re going out this weekend and the kids have decided they only want to see one movie, just go see this one. This film will be seen in theaters once.
