How many thousands of vacant posts of teachers in Delhi government schools? Revealed in RTI, 10 years of data has arrived

New Delhi: Amid the government’s tall claim of revolutionizing the education system in Delhi’s government schools, an RTI has revealed that more than two thousand posts of teachers have been lying vacant for the past ten years. Not only this, not a single permanent teacher has been appointed in the last ten years for disabled children studying in classes I to V. RTI revealed that in the last ten years 5747 permanent teachers resigned from their posts for various reasons, but only 3715 teachers were appointed in their place.

These posts of permanent teachers fall vacant due to various reasons like retirement, resignation, death, academic retirement and expulsion from the school. The Delhi Education Department informed PTI under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. This information has been informed in the context of the application made by the language reporter. A total of 448 teachers left government schools in 2014, according to data from the department. Where 411 teachers in 2015, 458 teachers in 2016, 526 teachers in 2017, 515 teachers in 2018, 519 teachers in 2019, 583 teachers in 2020, 670 teachers in 2021, 672 teachers in 2017. 2023, 950 teachers left government schools.

Thus, 5747 posts of teachers have become vacant in the last 10 years. But instead, there were nine permanent teachers in 2014, eight permanent teachers in 2015, 27 permanent teachers in 2016, 668 permanent teachers in 2017, 207 permanent teachers in 2018, 1576 permanent teachers in 2019, and 127 permanent teachers in 2020. Among the teachers, 42 permanent teachers are appointed in 2021, 931 permanent teachers in 2022 and 120 permanent teachers in 2023. However, 2032 posts are still vacant. According to RTI, a total of 15,021 guest teachers are currently working in Delhi government schools till 12 February 2024.

Ashok Aggarwal, president of the All India Parents Association and senior advocate of the Delhi High Court, said, ‘The Delhi High Court in an order in 2001 said that the vacancies of teachers in schools should be vacant at the beginning of the academic year. But 23. Even today thousands of permanent teaching posts are vacant or guest teachers are working. Aggarwal claimed that 15 to 20 per cent of permanent teachers in government schools are on leave for one reason or another due to maternity leave, study leave, medical leave etc. and a separate department needs to be kept in these situations. Teachers are prepared to ensure that children’s education is not affected. Advocate Aggarwal said that appointment of permanent teachers is a very serious issue and at least the government should appoint 10 percent of teachers separately.

A permanent teacher teaching in a government school in northeast Delhi said on condition of anonymity that till a while back his school’s 10th and 12th class results used to be 100%, today it has come down to 47 percent. Where there is a huge shortage of teachers. The situation is not good in the case of special teachers for children with disabilities. Data obtained from the RTI shows that 415 guest teachers were appointed for disabled children studying in classes 1 to 5 in the last 10 years, but surprisingly no permanent teachers were appointed.

According to information obtained from RTI, the total number of ‘special education teachers’ (SET) for children with disabilities studying in classes 10 to 12 in Delhi government schools is 291, of which 277 are permanent and 14 are guest teachers. The department said that 1712 teachers are available for students with disabilities from classes VI to X, of which 937 are guest teachers and 775 are permanent teachers.
