Now knowledge of tribal languages will be available in schools in Jharkhand, classes will start from June
Om Prakash Niranjan/Koderma.Chief Minister Champai Soren seems to be serious about promoting and developing Jharkhand’s regional languages. Earlier, in the presence of the Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, he issued guidelines to encourage the study of tribal languages in government schools of the state. Addressing a rally in Chaibasa, the Chief Minister said that the teaching of tribal languages will start from class I in government schools in the state from June.
The Chief Minister in his address said that teachers would be appointed in schools with low attendance to teach the local vernacular. Model schools will be built in every block of the state to improve the education system. Seven decades after the country’s independence, Jharkhand’s tribal students will now get an opportunity to learn in their mother tongue when tribal languages are introduced in government schools in the state.
Adivasi children will be attracted to education
Even today, in many districts of the state, people generally use tribal languages. If the study of tribal languages is started by the government, students from tribal areas especially will be attracted to education. By imparting education in the mother tongue, the children of the tribal communities will be able to acquire education easily.
More than 70 percent language teachers will be appointed
Earlier, Chief Minister Champai Soren held a meeting with the officials, which directed that areas in the state where 70 per cent or more people speak tribal languages live. A teacher will be appointed there to teach the same tribal language. Tribal languages like Saotali, Mundari, Bhumij, Ho, Khadia, Kudukh are used in the daily speech of tribals in different districts of the state.
