T20 World Cup 2024: Highest score of 200+ by the team that never won the title.

New Delhi. The ninth season of the ICC T20 World Cup is going to start in June with the match between America and Canada. The T20 World Cup was organized for the first time in 2007 and was hosted by South Africa. In the 8 seasons of the tournament, 6 teams have won the title so far. West Indies and England have won the trophy twice, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia have won the trophy once each. First i.e. in 2007 T20 World Cup, where Team India became champions, while England last achieved this feat in 2022 World Cup.

Of the 12 full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), South Africa, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland and Zimbabwe have never won an ODI or T20 World Cup. Among them, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland and Zimbabwe never made it to the semi-finals, while New Zealand reached the final of the 2021 World Twenty20, but were denied the title by losing to Australia. Similarly, the South African team is far from the title despite reaching the semi-finals twice (2009, 2014). Interestingly, despite scoring 200+ 5 times in the history of T20 World Cup, the South African team did not even make it to the final, let alone the title. Apart from South Africa, no other team has scored 200 or more runs twice.

The Sri Lankan team’s two records in the first Twenty20 World Cup are still intact, will it be broken this time?

South Africa scored 200+ maximum 5 times

6 times South Africa’s journey ended in the second round
Looking very strong on paper, the South African side have reached the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup twice so far, while six times their journey has ended in the second round. The South African team led by Aiden Markram will participate in the 2024 World Cup. The team also has good players like Henrik Klaasen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, T Stubbs and Gerald Coetzee. In such a situation, it remains to be seen whether the dream of the South African team to win the trophy will be fulfilled or not.
