4 Months Farming, 8 Months Fun, M.Com Farmer’s Awesome Brain, Income Rs 3 Crores Without Land

But Puwayan tehsil of Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh is called ‘Mini Punjab’. This Mini is a progressive young farmer from Punjab, who has no land of his own but is today the largest watermelon producer in the state. This farmer is cultivating watermelon on hundreds of acres of land on lease.

Deepak Kumar, a resident of Gangsara, a small town in Puwayan tehsil, completed his M.Com studies in 2005 from Swami Shukdevananda Degree College, Shahjahanpur. He loved farming during his studies. But Deepak did not have an inch of land in the name of farm. After that, Deepak started watermelon cultivation by taking land lease from farmers for about 4 months. Deepak has been cultivating watermelons for the past 20 years. Deepak started watermelon cultivation from 10 acres of land. Today, he has become the largest watermelon farmer in the state by leasing 356 acres of land and cultivating watermelons.

Started farming with land lease
Deepak said that after harvesting potatoes, the fields of the farmers in his area became empty. Then he leased the fields from the farmers at the rate of 25 to 30 thousand rupees per acre. The farmers prepare the fields and hand them over. where he grows melons and watermelons. Deepak leases the field from the farmers for about 4 months.

The price of seeds is up to 95 thousand rupees per kg
Deepak said, he cultivates about half a dozen varieties of watermelon in his field. He collected good quality seeds from Thailand and Taiwan and planted them in his land. Due to which their bumper yield. The special thing is that these watermelons are very tasty. Deepak said that the price of the seeds he uses ranges from Tk 30,000 to Tk 95,000 per kg.

Watermelon is sold in three state markets
Deepak said that about 2500 to 3000 quintals of watermelons are picked from his field every day. Watermelons from his place are supplied to around 40 to 50 mandis in Uttar Pradesh, around 20 mandis in Uttarakhand and many districts in Bihar. Traders get watermelon orders by contacting them over phone.

More than 3 crore profit in 1 season
Deepak said that he got a yield of 150 to 200 quintals of watermelon per acre. Due to which they earn more than 3 crore rupees in one season. Not only that, he is also providing employment to around 400 to 500 people. who accompany them in taking care of the watermelon crop in the field as well as helping in the production and transportation of watermelons to the market.
